E.H. Taylor, Jr. Cured Oak

Sazerac E.H Taylor Cured Oak Bourbon

Renowned as one of the founding fathers of the bourbon industry and for fighting for the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. implemented several innovations during his ownership of O.F.C Distillery, now Buffalo Trace Distillery and which are still used today. One of these innovations was the climate controlled barrel aging.

Now a National Historic Landmark as well as being listed on the National Register of Historic Places Buffalo Trace Distiller bestows further honor upon E.H Taylor Jr. with the seventh release of the E.H Taylor Old Fashioned Sour Mash Whiskey Line.

Made by hand, small batch and extremely limited in quantity, this one time only bottling special release E.H Taylor Jr. Cured Oak is Bottled-In Bond, at 100 proof.

An exceptional bourbon, it has been aged in cured oak barrels whose staves were air dried for more than twice as long as the 6 month standard. This additional seven months of drying time allowing the whiskey to extract ever deeper, more rich and complex flavors held deep within the oak.

Placed carefully inside Taylor’s iconic brick and limestone tornado surviving warehouse C built in 1881, these barrels have been lovingly tended for 17 years. The result is an aroma rich immensely flavorful whiskey

Just as with past releases, bottles of E.H Taylor Jr. Cured Oak Bourbon display a vintage label and are packed inside canisters reminiscent of the packaging Taylor used a century ago and modeled upon the wooden crates used to transport goods during the days before Prohibition.

E.H Taylor Jr. Cured Oak bourbon is a true ‘sipping bourbon’ honoring the uncompromising legacy of E.H. Taylor, Jr. The nose speaks of tobacco and dried fruits; apricots and lemon generously drizzled with honey. The palate is dense; stone fruit at first; figs and apricots, followed by rich vanilla and toffee, toasted cedar spice, leather and orange blossom. Medium bodied and smooth, the finish is long and dry with only a slight trace of heat.

TASTING NOTES

After seventeen years of aging in the cured oak, this bourbon whiskey delivers an aroma rich with inviting tobacco and dried fruit. A complex flavor meets the mouth with well-rounded notes of vanilla, toffee, and figs, followed by undertones of dry oak. The body is medium with a long, dry finish.
